James Purdy: Selected Plays

Purdy (1914-2009) is best known for his novels, but in fact he began his writing career with drama, and his plays have been produced both at home in the US and around the world. The Story of Ruthanna Elder (1989) was a parallel story from his novel Narrow Rooms that he turned into a play. Paradise Circus (1991) and Brice (1992) he finished after they had ripened half-written for some decades. Where Quentin Goes (2001) was among his final works.
