Crash Course in Family Literacy Programs

Chance (library science, Sam Houston State U.) and Sheneman, a librarian who formerly taught at Sam Houston State U. show public and school librarians and others how to promote literacy in family programs. They define literacy and family literacy and address funding, research on family literacy and the importance of reading, program models, preparation and implementation, the role of parent-child literacy interaction and parent education (with sample plans), bilingual/multicultural family literacy, and special issues like preschool and younger children, audience, and primary language.
