Barton D. Schmitt, MD, FAAP, is a professor emeritus of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He founded and served as medical director of the after-hours call center at Children’s Hospital Colorado for more than 30 years. He continues to teach pediatric residents in the continuity clinics at Children’s Hospital Colorado and Denver Health.

Dr Schmitt has been a prolific writer. His American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) book Pediatric Telephone Protocols is used in most pediatric offices. The electronic version is found in several electronic health records. His Pediatric Symptom Checker for parents is found on many office websites.
