Leslie Edwards never expected to field the question-and-answer column "Dear Granny" in the Goosebury Gazette. Her Bible-based advice yields mixed responses, and the problems resulting are bigger than she'd ever imagined. In addition, to maintain the illusion of "Granny," she must keep her job hidden from the man who wants to know her best. More than anything, shy Blaine Cartell would like to pursue his neighbor Leslie, but the isolated nature of Goosebury, Vermont, extends to the personalities and practices of its citizens.
