Born in Cleburne, Texas, in 1920, Odell Myers grew up in Tyler. The day after Pearl Harbor, he received his orders to begin cadet training as a pilot and on July 25, 1942, was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the USAAC. On December 4, 1942, the bomber Myers’ piloted was shot down. He spent the next 900 days in and out of Italian and German POW camps, from which he escaped and was recaptured on several occasions. Following World War II, Myers worked in the aerospace industry, where he was responsible for writing both technical and marketing publications. He retired in 1987 and has been writing ever since.
