In 1898 using a borrowed camera Morris Rosenfeld won a photo contest with the picture of a three-masted ship on the East River of New York. The $5 prize allowed him to purchase his own camera and begin a career in photography. Together Morris and son Stanley devoted nearly a century to making photographs of boats. Their work -- more than one million images -- was acquired in 1984 by Mystic Seaport Museum and is the largest collection of maritime photographs in the United States.
