Mood Disorders: Clinical Assessment and Management

Disruption of a person’s mood and the occurrence of manic and depressive episodes can be attributed to a mood disorder. Such a disorder can be depressive, bipolar, substance-induced or triggered by a medical condition. Mood disorders may be grouped under two sections, namely bipolar and related disorders, and depressive and related disorders. There are several treatment avenues for the management of mood disorders, such as behavioral antidepressants, cognitive and interpersonal therapies as well as prescription of antipsychotics and mood stabilizers. Lithium compounds may also be prescribed to reduce the risk of suicide and other causes of mortality in people with mood disorders. This book aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of mood disorders. It presents researches and studies performed by experts across the globe on the clinical assessment and management of mood disorders. It attempts to assist those with a goal of delving into this field.
