Reuben Remington, a young architect at the top of his career, has waited a long time for this success and is finally ready to do some celebrating on holiday at a Long Island beach house. But then a girl—a waif of a woman—collapses right in front of him, and when she is carted off to the hospital, her little brother is left in need of a temporary guardian.
