From its humble beginning as a small commuter college with fewer students than the surrounding high schools, Norfolk’s Old Dominion University has grown to be one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the state of Virginia. As the school sought to establish its independent identity, one iconic baseball coach and his star pupils helped bring national name recognition to "Old Dominion College." Monarchs tells the story of how Coach Bud Metheny built a baseball powerhouse out of almost exclusively local talent, culminating in a 1964 East Region NCAA championship earned in baseball’s most revered venue--New York’s Yankee Stadium.
