"The Library A Life in Picture Books" is a delight! Linda Dickman is a retired children’s librarian and she has forgotten more about children’s literature than most of us ever knew. In this beautifully constructed collection of poems, Linda takes us on an appreciative journey through some of her favorite children’s picture books by writing clever and often beautiful poems about them. I would categorize this book as a collection of ekphrastic work with a twist! Each poem complements and enhances our appreciation of the unique worlds created in each of these beloved picture books. I was delighted to be thoughtfully carried back to that magical chair at my school library where I first read so many of these volumes. These poems celebrate each of these books, but they also enhanced and enriched my understanding of these classic stories.
From Puss in Boots to The Sand Horse the poet shares her love of this literature while also contributing to its importance and legacy. These stories have impacted us, sometimes for generations. This volume will remind us of why The Library is a place we should revisit again and again. This enchanting collection is a treasure trove of imaginative tales, playful rhymes, and colorful characters. It is a poetic journey that children and parents will cherish together for generations.
