Christopher T. Rand studied Middle Eastern languages and history at the University of California, Berkeley, then Tehran and Cairo, and acquired a master’s degree in Islamic Studies at UCLA in 1964. He has worked in various roles within the petroleum industry, is currently a freelance writer and commentator, and has worked as a consultant for various government bodies. His previously published works include the book Making Democracy Safe for Oil, a book of memoirs, Silver Diaspora, and numerous articles, and he has made radio and television appearances, given lectures and appeared on panels.
