This, combined with a Christian education, inspired me to write stories that convey morals reinforced with biblical references and precedents but without feeling like sermons. I believe that morals without a divine foundation are empty. No God means no real authority to set universal standards; morals become opinions, each being no more legitimate than any other. Also, in keeping with things of a universal kind, the setting of this story has been distilled so that it favors no particular culture or place. The characters too are very common: a professor, a dog, a cat, and a raven.
