Lucia’s health is rapidly deteriorating, and she must leave the Dark Realm and travel to the Light side before she becomes gravely ill. Chello takes her to the water’s edge of the great river separating the realms. He can go no further as his powers are the antithesis to the Light Realm. Lucia insists that he help her cross the river, but once Chello sets foot in the Light Realm, the land becomes violent with massive storms and high winds uprooting everything in their path. Together they run for their lives, but Lucia’s health is failing, and she is unable to keep up with Chello. Chello has no alternative but to leave her and return to the Dark side before the light side is frozen in time for a thousand years. Chello leaves, the storm abates, and Lucia sleeps in the undergrowth until she is woken by Father Michael.

Kim Beatrice is of Ngapuhi descent and lives in the Tararua district of New Zealand. She is a frequent contributor to book collections in New Zealand and overseas. She has won international awards for her poetry and has an array of short stories and poetry anthologised in New Zealand and around the world. Kim attended university as a mature aged student and was determined to graduate by the time she was fifty - and she did. After finally getting the hang of how computers worked and with a bit of struggle and determination she came away gratefully with a Master of Creative Writing and a Master of Arts (Writing & Literature). Now heading for sixty, she has finally followed her heart and her dreams and written this beautiful story with her daughter her inspiration - An Angel in the Undergrowth: The Realms. This is Kim’s second novel in the series and with Kim’s husband giving her the strength and courage to pursue her dreams. Born in 1961, she is the middle sibling in a family of seven brothers and sisters.
