A voyeuristic look at the life of one lonely man living in a tiny, semi-detached council house in a fictional suburb which becomes the fish bowl from which he observes the world when he’s not working. Most of his friends and relatives have escaped the harsh segregation laws by emigrating. It is many years’ later and he still feels bereft and unsure of himself. He struggles with issues such as religion, work and love. As a nondescript worker, he suppresses his anger and bitterness regarding unfair worker treatment by spending his days reminiscing and his nights dreaming. In his search for answers he abandons religion, trying to find answers elsewhere and is surprised to discover that the rules that once trapped him are mere illusions.
