"WHATEVER KINGDOM IT IS YOU ATTEMPT TO BUILD, DO SO KNOWING THIS: IT WILL BE NOTHING MORE THAN A KINGDOM OF SAND BUILT ON A STRETCH OF BEACH. AND REST ASSURED I WILL BE THE INCOMING TIDE."
Havenhid is all abuzz over the trial of Jacob Parrish, who has also become known in the whispered rumors traded amongst his fellow Nephilim as "Son of Sam." The Iucidium Tribunal has convened the hearing to determine once and for all whether Jacob is, indeed, the prophesied Light Bearer most at Havenhid have come to believe him to be. The Tribunal’s chief interrogator Sandel, whose made no secret of his immense disdain for the boy, has every intent, however, of not only disproving the idea he believes to be a blatant and blasphemous falsehood, but discrediting Jacob’s very existence as well as nothing more than a bad seed planted in Eden by the dark forces of the Underneath. But when Jacob’s father Samael, newly freed from his torturous internment in the Infernal Desert, shows up unexpectedly to deliver his own petition to the Tribunal, all Hades is unleashed upon Eden. As Gotham embarks on a fevered search for a way to scuttle Samael’s plan, Jacob and his friends come up with own scheme to cut Samael off at the pass using the Scucca Urns Hunter stole from their extremely hostile Pethen guardians. Their ploy quickly hits a roadblock when they realize they need a certain relic from the biblical past in order for their plan to succeed. A race against time ensues as Max and Kairo volunteer to embark on a desperate and dangerous search for the one thing capable of keeping their friend safe from the clutches of the Underneath, and preventing the light of the sacred prophesy reborn in Jacob from being snuffed out once again.
