Lex’s therapist advised him not to write a book but to read more books, play sports, and participate in more family activities to aid him with his speech rehabilitation. Lex was devastated by his father’s Covid-19 recovery. Lex and his father read books and told stories every morning over breakfast. Lex gained the courage to talk again with the help of his speech pathologist and morning stories with his dad. One of the stories Lex would share with his dad was about lava rocks and wild animals. When The Lost Lava Rock was published, he spoke to hundreds of people at colleges and elementary schools. No one was aware of Lex’s speech impediment.
