Priestess Anyanwu was once the most troublesome ogbanje ever known. A malevolent spirit who died young and kept coming back until finally, after her seventeenth birth, the goddess freed her from bondage. Grateful for her life being spared, Anyanwu joined the priestesshood of Ala where she, along with several other priestesses, guard over the n’dissi, a wall of magic created to keep the Osuru out.
One day, Priestess Anyanwu leaves her shrine to find a commotion in the city square. A man’s life is on the line, and it is up to her to decide whether he will live or die. Little did Anyanwu know that her choice would affect the life of the person closest to her. It would rip her away from the comfortable life she created for herself and send her on a journey of discovery that would reveal Nri’s secrets and bring her closer to the Osuru than ever before.
