Simon and Wayne’s life journeys continue, having survived murder and kidnapping attempts.

Will this be the end of the dangers they have to encounter? No, it’s not. The sexual abuse sect may have been resolved
within the Catholic church but the sect leaders still survive and must be removed. Simon feels he is the only one capable of doing so despite being the Pope.
Simon’s doubts about the church’s future remain and are increased when he finds corruption involving Wayne’s business. He needs to confront his lifelong friend about this.
Their children wish to follow in their father’s footsteps and walk the Camino, including running with the crowds and bulls during the San Fermin festival. However, an accident risks their travel plans and they must reevaluate their futures.
Wiremu and Mary decide to visit Canada to find her Whakapapa. There, they see things that test her resolve about her future career and start to create doubts in Simon’s resolve to continue leading the Catholic church.
Wayne remains Simon’s closest friend and continues to provide a balanced but usually humorous response to Simon’s worries and concerns regarding the church’s future. This humour is vital when Simon faces three more attempts on his life in Essen, Boston and Paris. These attempts and Simon’s conflict about God creating Man lead him to make some serious decisions and deal with the consequences of these decisions.
