Dhamas and Hamida love each other very deeply. Sadly, the culture of their community separates them, just as the Shabelle River separates their village into Shabashaba North Bank and Shabashaba South Bank.
Hamida’s father has given her to his nephew, and Dhamas’s mother has arranged for her son to marry her sister’s daughter. In desperation, the couple elopes to Agaaran, a faraway place where runaway couples can get married without the consent of their parents. On the way, Hamida is bitten by a dangerous snake that almost kills her.
In spite of this, the couple eventually gets married in Agaaran. However, when they return home, they have to face intense pressure to withdraw from their marriage, but their true love must still find a way.
