A very long time ago, when memories were as clear as a stream, there was a Father-Fish, called Pa, a Mother-Fish, called Ma, and a Daughter-Fish, named Stella. When the first stars began to twinkle in the sky, Stella knew it was time to get ready for sleep to come and make her cozy. In order to greet her sleep (or resist it!), Stella often asked Pa to make up stories with her and more often than not, sleep came first to Pa before it came to Stella. Of all the stories across all the evenings, Stella preferred one story in particular and this is that story: The One about Stella: A Little Fish. Both Father-Fish and Daughter-Fish imagined that all of it was mostly true, or like a dream, turned out to be true.
So begins the charming story of The One about Stella: A Little Fish, in which Stella (the Little Fish of the title) leaves her home in the warm shallows of the Great River behind---not by choice!--- to embark on an exciting adventure, during which she will encounter danger in the form of TurkeyLegs the Heron, thundering waterfalls, and Malvolio, Leader of Pike, as well as meeting new friends, including first and foremost Slingo, Reigning Lord of the Sa-la-man-der Peepil. Readers (and listeners) are encouraged to illustrate the story themselves on special pages that have been left blank.
