This fascinating volume of lyrical poetry is comprised of two ways with words. The first is nature journal as lyrical poetry, a reporting in which the poet-chronicler takes us into a new and watery world with discoveries "miles from what I had in mind," each episodic movement an arrival. The second is juxtaposed anecdotes that connect with each other in multiple and surprising relations ("three, a fourth, and then a fifth sequential"). Writing of this kind sometimes flirts with playful surrealism and post-modern montage. The two ways with words are often found together in remarkable and convincing movements. Littoral is a laudable achievement. It is a wonderful relaxing read filled with beautiful imagery. Vibrant and alive, each page has a life of its own.
