Toward Sustainable Environmental Education: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities

This new book reflects the priorities of the UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development, which reaffirms the importance of education in society. The idea of sustainability necessitates that we take into account long-term horizons, environmental stability, the needs of humans in various locations, as well as those of non-human residents of the earth.

The book considers environmental education, the social and cultural implications of climate science, education and sustainable development, sustainable education and COVID-19 pandemics, new technology in education, and many other pertinent issues relating to environmental protection.

Javid A Parray, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at the Government Degree College, Eidgah, Srinagar, Kashmir, India. He holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science and has completed his research program (MPhil and PhD) at the University of Kashmir, India. Dr. Parray was awarded a Fast Track Young Scientist Project by SERB-DST, GoI New Delhi. He has attended many courses and conferences on environmental issues and other biotechnological aspects in India as well as in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. His fundamental research interests include ecological and agricultural microbiology, climate change and microbial biotechnology, environmental microbiomes, etc. He has published more than 50 high-impact research papers and book chapters in reputed journals and publishing Hubs. Dr. Parray has authored 14 books with international publishers, such as Elsevier, Springer, Callisto Reference USA, and Wiley-Blackwell. He is on the editorial boards and is a reviewer for many journals and has been an invited speaker at various scientific meetings and conferences within India and abroad. He is also a guest editor for a special issue on Environmental Biofilms with BioMed Research International, Hindwai. He is member of many international and national scientific organizations and societies, including Asian PGPR Society, IJMS Mumbai, Academy of Eco Science, IAES Haridwar, etc. Dr. Parray was awarded as an ＂Emerging Scientist Year Gold Medal＂ for the year 2018 by the Indian Academy of Environmental Science.

Aparna Gunjal, PhD, is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Dr. D. Y. Patil, Arts, Commerce & Science College, Pimpri, Pune, Maharashtra, India. With eight years of teaching experience and 14 years of research experience, Dr. Gunjal has 150 publications to her credit, which includes research papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings, books, book chapters; review articles, reports, and articles in international magazines and newsletters. She has also submitted sequences to microbiology databases. Dr. Gunjal has received 15 awards at national and international level as well as various travel grants for paper presentations at international conferences. She also received a ＂Senior Scientist Award＂ from the Microbiologists Society India in 2023.

Nusrat Shafi, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Government Degree College, Eidgah, Srinagar, Kashmir, India. She has presented and published papers in professional journals and has written several book chapters. With over 15 years of experience in her field, she received the Bharat Ratna Mother Teresa Gold Medal Award at the 61st National Unity Conference by GPERA.
