The two children grow up playing together, and eventually fall in love. They are young and naive and seek out advice from those more experienced than themselves. But Chloe is being courted by two other men who try to abduct her. She is taken from Daphnis who must try to find her again.
Daphnis and Chloe is an ancient Greek novel written in the Roman Empire. It is the only known work of the second-century AD Greek novelist and romance writer Longus. A page of the text was missing until the early nineteenth century. It was found by Paul Louis Courier who copied the page before accidentally spilling ink on the original. The novel has since been adapted for the opera, ballet, film, and radio.
