Is this a ripping yarn or a historical drama? Maybe both?
This adventure takes place during a period referred to as the Dark Ages, a time of deep depression for centuries following the Romans withdrawal from Britain. Approaching the end of the seventh-century life is difficult for the populous as they look to eke out a living from the land. But our characters strive to overcome adversity and seek a brighter future than seems possible in a country rife with poverty and war.
Our hero, Audric, hopes for peaceful adventure and a life full of cultural change. He loses his parents at an early age but carries on defiantly to pursue new opportunities.
As a young teen, Audric is befriended by a mystical elderly man called Morgan and his dwarf-like companion, Tork, who becomes Audric’s life-long friend.
On his death, Morgan imparts his knowledge and mystical powers to Audric and thus opens up new opportunities and influences in the world around him.
Some of the historical events are known to have taken place but not necessarily in the chronological order detailed. This adds a colourful background to the story as Audric interacts with real-life characters of the era during a period stripped of sophisticated trappings yet still bound by war, religion, hope and survival.
