ATF Fire Investigator, Drea Hidalgo, loved her action-filled job in Washington, DC, until a house fire almost consumed her, and she was forced to transfer to teaching. For years, Drea avoided the small, nosy town where she grew up, but after her grandfather suffers a heart attack, she has to go back. When she finds out he has advanced lung cancer, she stays to care for him. Now, she’s stuck in a town that harbors too many uncomfortable memories, including ones of Danny Parsons-her first love, and her first heartbreak.

Danny Parsons had his own dreams. A football scholarship offered a chance at a different life with Drea, but when his older brother skipped town, leaving Danny as the only child to continue the family ranch, he had to choose between love and duty. Since then, he’s been using the steady hands and level head of his quarterbacking days to develop and expand the family business. The quiet contentment of that work is disrupted when Drea-the only woman he’s ever loved-steps back into his world.

When a series of deadly fires rocks the town, Drea’s professional instincts kick in, but the local police don’t want her help. Drea is torn between catching a killer, caring for her grandfather, and her rekindled relationship with Danny.
