INTRODUCTION The stu d en t community is a vast reservoir of energy. This energy can be channeled through constructive or destructive pathways. College life is a period for development, for finding a voice, an identity, and a path paved in preparation for life to come. Many take advantage of the available opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities, to build relationships, to gain leadership experience, and also to learn how to m ake changes in the world. For many, there are several motivating factors for involvement, including the building of relationships and leadership experience. Some are motivated to contribute to the progress of society. Though college students represent only a small portion of our population, it is the portion th at m ost frequently, in the long run, provides the leadership, occupies policy making positions, and effectively influence public opinion
