Joseph Conrad (born Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, was a Polish novelist. Many critics regard him as one of the greatest novelists in the English language-a fact that is remarkable as he did not learn to speak English fluently until he was in his twenties (albeit always with a Polish accent). It has been said that you can judge a person by the people he or she associates with... the close friends. If that is true, then one should have no trouble judging Joseph Conrad, because his friends include Bertrand Russell, T.E. Lawrence, and H.G. Wells. Several of Joseph Conrad’s novels have been made into films (Lord Jim, etc.) And Secret Agent is one of them... First in 1936 by Alfred Hitchcock, entitled Sabotage, starring John Gielgud, and again in 1996 under its real name, with Bob Hoskins, Patricia Arquette, Gérard Depardieu, and Robin Williams as the Professor.
