Vickie Star was her working name, and it came to her after a few years of starring as one of San Francisco's more illustrative and outgoing ladies of the night. Her tale is true. She may seem to have lived a tragic life to us, but in her own words being a prostitute and madam was a "great career path." Her tale winds us through San Francisco, Mustang Ranch, Ash Meadows during World War II and on into the 1990s. She worked for more than 60 years, finally retiring on a ranch in northern California. The writer of this book when asked to take down her story had by accident met her in 1960. He explains that in the Foreword.
