Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone was born to parents Silvio Athony Ciccone and Madonna Louise Nee Fortin on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. Married in 1955, her father, of Italian descent, was an engineer and her mother, of French Canadian descent, was initially a dancer and then followed a career as an x-ray technician. They moved to Pontiac, Detroit to start a family and Madonna was the middle child of six and sister to Martin, Anthony, Paula, Christopher and Melanie.
