Growing up in the Yorkshire Dales, Clare Grant went on to study English Literature with French at Sussex University, she lived in Paris and then began a career in journalism. After covering assignments worldwide as an award-winning feature writer for the Daily Mirror, she gained a Masters degree in Heritage Interpretation from Newcastle University.While researching the role of women in policing Clare visited a North Yorkshire museum that by chance featured a detailed recreation of an early photographer’s studio. That day Ada Fawkes, the fictional heroine of this book, was born. The story is set in the beautiful city of York, a place Clare has been drawn to all her life.
