The Case of the Telbury Halt Ghost
One stormy night, Doctor Morelle and Miss Frayle find themselves waiting with the village railway station attendant for the last train to London. At the sound of its approach, the man dashes agitatedly out into the night declaring his intention to open the level crossing gates. But when seated on the train, they learn that following a fatal crash the station’s level crossing had been replaced by a bridge! Exactly five years earlier the stationmaster had been killed as he vainly attempted to open the gates. And, on the anniversary of the disaster, his ghost is reputed to return to try to open the gates...
