The Anti-Racist Social Worker in Practice shows how anti-racism can be woven into daily practice. With examples from both children’s and adult’s services, it empowerssocial workers to find their own path to challenge racism through their work with people, families and communities.

Despite the rich body of literature discussing the need for anti-racist approaches to social work, many practitioners still lack confidence in their own ability to find the words and actions needed to address experiences of marginalisation.

This book is a collection of experiences and stories of anti-racist practice, written by social workers and people with lived experience. Each chapter takes an element of practice and considers it through an anti-racist lens. The book equips readers with practically applicable approaches to inform and develop their own anti-racist practice.

Nimal Jude is a registered social worker with a background in multi-agency children’s social care including youth justice, domestic abuse and substance misuse. She has a specialism in group work using forum theatre techniques.

Nimal has been involved in pioneering initiatives, with a proven track record of strategic development and implementation ensuring co-production and inclusion. Projects include establishing Regional Teaching Partnership, working within Department for Education to incubate Social Work England, developing Social Care Workforce Race Equality Standards and implementing a variety of new initiatives and frameworks.

Dr Tanya Moore is a social worker, teacher and academic. She is currently Principal Social Worker for Essex Adult Social care but previous roles have included Research lead and Course Lead for the social work doctorate at The Tavistock and Portman and Principal Social Worker at Hertfordshire Adult social care.

Glory Simango is a social worker and gained her Masters in Social Work at Middlesex University. Current she is practicing as an adult social worker. Glory has a passion for bring change into people’s lives and social justice.
