American born preacher Johnnie Washington was a notable singer during gospel music’s golden era. He left the concert stage and began preaching on the street corners of New York City. His fiery sermons drew thousands to his tent revivals, and into his mega church, the Tabernacle of Prayer For All People, located in Jamaica, NY. He acquired a shuttered movie palace, the 3,500 seat Loews Valencia, and restored it for his church headquarters. Capacity crowds filled the auditorium to witness his services each week. His International radio broadcast was heard weekly on over 60 stations around the world. He is remembered as one of the greatest preachers in New York, and America.
