Raj Krizic understands there is no future for him in Yugoslavia beneath the iron fist of the Communist’s rule, which enforces Party membership, condemning those opposed to starvation.

As he begins his adult life at eighteen, Raj is confronted with a decision that will impact his freedom forever: enter compulsory military service for the despotic state he despises or flee the life and land he has always known.

With a friend by his side, and a brother already ahead of him, Raj escapes the oppressive state, travelling northwest to the border of Italy.
