Chick Gallin, Author Chick Gallin, a New Yorker by birth, served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, the New York Fire Department, and was a private investigator in the South Florida area. During his final eight months in the Fire Department, he was assigned to a multi-departmental task force ordered clean up certain districts in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and the more derelict districts of Manhattan. He worked with the New York Police Department, riding with a patrolman, lieutenant, transit patrolman, and a sanitation division officer.
