Lilly Moore is in her last semester of middle school. Following the death of her grandmother, she is not sure she wants to move on to the large high school. Though she depends on her best friend and next door neighbor, Sarah, to guide her socially, the effort is not easy. Facing the many changes life presents to her as she turns fourteen, Lilly questions if she really wants to become an adult. The new millennium seems strange and uncertain, with tragedies such as Columbine and technological advances. However, with the support of her parents, teachers, a new friend, and the memory of her grandmother, she begins to recognize her strengths and who she is.
