Since birth, Kit Mallory (Mallory Kit) has been a child of two worlds. As the prophesied offspring of an empiric queen and the figurehead of a rebel alliance, she was supposed to heal the wounds of a centuries-old political feud.

Kit has spent most of her adult life running from her responsibilities. Preordained as the next empiric queen, she had no talent for politics and no appetite for power. The expectations of the prophecy had become a weight she couldn’t bear. Her only option had been to flee from her obligations and her family. But now, amid the chaos created by the Coalition’s evil schemes, Kit must do the unthinkable.

She must go home.

Recruiting her mother’s help to deal with the Coalition is easier said than done. Despite the obvious atrocities committed by the rebel nation, Queen Mallory’s diplomatic priorities prevent her from taking military action.

With her father and sister caught in the crossfire of this cold war, Kit won’t accept negotiation as an alternative to aggression. When an opportunity arises to disrupt the Coalition’s strategy and retrieve Elizandra, Kit risks her life to save her sister. Unprepared for the upheaval her rebellion causes, she must expose the truth about herself to diffuse the outrage of two regimes. Even if that means putting an even bigger target on her back.
