I DIED. For forty-two seconds I died.
They were operating on me—why isn't important anymore—and it was a simple surgery, everyone said so. My dad didn't even take off work.
Breathing, breathing, not.
*I can picture it. The "oh, no," the scurrying around, the paddles on my chest, thwump. Clear! Thwump. Beep beep, beep beep, she's back. *
Everything back to normal.
THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING.
**
Cara Campbell thought she had it made: star athlete, popular student, winner. But when she dies during surgery, she sees something she knows no one would ever believe. The doctors manage to revive her, but what happened during those 42 seconds of death has changed everything.
Now Cara is having a hard time adjusting to her former life. None of her friends or accomplishments matter anymore. What does matter is the face she saw as she came rushing back into her body. That face belongs to David Mayer, a brainy outcast who dislikes Cara even more than she does him.
As Cara sorts through the ramifications of her near-death experience, and struggles to overcome her fear of telling everyone what really happened, she discovers a path she never realized lay ahead of her.
And as Cara is about to learn, there are no coincidences.

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR:
Q: I've heard you say that doing the research for your books is almost as much fun as writing them. What research did you do for REPLAY?
A: I attended a 3-day workshop with about 50 people who had had near-death experiences. Their stories of what they saw blew my mind.
Q: Similar to what the little boy saw in Heaven Is For Real?
A: Everyone was different. What each of them saw and experienced was meaningful to them. It was really an awe-inspiring event. For those who can't attend something like that in person, I recommend Anita Moorjani's memoir Dying To Be Me. She gives a very thorough and touching recount of her own near-death experience, and shows how what she learned can help all of us live our lives more fully. It's a beautiful book.
Q: You also delve into reincarnation in REPLAY. What research did you do for that?
A: I've always been fascinated by the concept of reincarnation. I've read countless books about it over the years just for fun. I particularly recommend anything by Dr. Brian Weiss, a psychiatrist who had to overcome his skepticism about reincarnation after one of his patients proved to him it was real. Start with his first book, Many Lives, Many Masters and continue from there. Every single one of his books will completely reorganize your view of life, death, and the soul.
Q: For fans of REPLAY, what other books have you written that they might enjoy?
A: I suggest trying the PARALLELOGRAM series. I explore a lot of very cool frontier science in that, including parallel universes and time travel. And yes, there are physicists who believe in both. After all the research I did for that series, I'm halfway convinced myself!
