Some offers you can’t refuse.
The last couple of months have been a mixed bag for Jane Fortune. Sure, she saved Ragged Gap from the clutches of a rogue sorcerer, but now most of the victims hate her. She got to speak with her cousin in the Pactlands, though a face-to-face meeting is impossible. But Jane’s dad is still a free man, so she counts that as a win. Then Warner Cavanaugh comes calling. A self-proclaimed warlock from Whitford, the next town over, Warner tells Jane about the demonic familiar his "patrons" gave him-a gift no longer worth the upkeep. He offers to sell her his familiar, perhaps as an assistant in her bath products business. Warner’s familiar is no demon, however, and her existence in Georgia, like Jane’s, points to a crime. As Jane tries to figure out where the girl came from and where she needs to be, she’s forced to turn once again to the Pactlands agents who could jeopardize her life and her father’s freedom. And then there’s the matter of the Whitford police chief, who’s been doing his own research into Ragged Gap’s resident sorcerer and part-time arsonist. Jane knows she’s dancing closer to the fire, but how far will she go to solve the mystery?
