Dana-Susan and Bill Crews have been raising awareness and funding in the cancer community for decades. Before Bill was diagnosed with cancer, they were deeply affected by childhood cancer and young adult cancers and had developed a deep passion for bringing an end to these diseases. Following Bill’s diagnosis, they became involved in fundraising through a variety of organizations including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Lymphoma Research Foundation, American Cancer Society, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. From 2008-2013, they operated a nonprofit organization called Remission Run, Inc. Its signature event, the Bill Crews Remission Run, raised funds for the Lymphoma Tissue Bank at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Together with their friend Deanna Katri, they also organized OutSwim Cancer which also raised funds for MD Anderson. In 2021, they launched Bell Asteri Publishing & Enterprises which puts a spotlight on childhood cancers as well as adolescent/young adult cancers. All publications relate to cancer patients under the age of 40 and their families. Currently, they serve on the National Advisory Council for the American Cancer Society’s Gold Together campaign. This campaign funds pediatric cancer research.
