For first-order simulations, a simple operational amplifier featuring an output voltage clamp with programmable open-loop gain and a low-frequency pole, is all you need to test your loop design: run a first low-level simulation then complicate your circuit with more comprehensive models supplied by semiconductors manufacturers.
