The Cost of Victory

The war reaches its final stages. Returning from Rendalia with veteran forces and his foreign bride Princess Isolde, William enters a rebellion on the verge of collapse, and turns it all around. William proves himself a brilliant tactician, winning battle after battle against impossible numbers and pushing into the heart of Sidor, straight for the capital.

And this is where his weakness begins to show.

For all he can do on the battlefield, William learns it is what happens off the battlefield that can hurt him. As it becomes clear they are going to win the war, the men fighting the rebellion look to the future, and what they might get out of it, each jockeying for position. In the political arena, William finds himself unequipped as everyone positions themselves for what comes next.

The war might be almost over, but the future of the crown has never been more in doubt.
