Robert Materna, Ph.D. explores how using "Enterprise Servant Leadership" (ESL) principles are a new way of doing business to be the "best of the best." ESL is based on lessons learned from the life and work of James "Micky" Blackwell, former Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Sector president and leader of the F-22 Stealth Fighter. ESL is shown to be a highly successful management model for both small projects and major corporations.
Materna follows Micky’s rise through the ranks at one of the world’s largest defense contractors, with special emphasis on the design, development, and production of the F-22 Stealth Fighter. He discusses the characteristics of servant leaders, their use of Integrated Product Teams to generate superior products, and Lean Management methodologies including Lean Thinking, Six Sigma, 6S, Kaizen, and TQM. He proposes a transferable Enterprise Servant Leadership Management Model that focuses on management core values, servant leader culture, communication, and leading by example. Materna uses real life examples to demonstrate the successful implementation of ESL over a variety of projects, programs, and organizations.
