This is a story about caring, sharing, adventures, dangers, and finding answers to problems.
Author Jo Van Horn lives on her small ranch out West, where the dogs, cats, and chickens all run free. The dogs bark at anything that moves, the cats sit by the dogs and lean on them, and the chickens come when the author calls as she scatters wheat for them to eat.
When winter comes, the horses get hay, and the chickens find shelter in the barn or the old chicken house that has a small door which allows them to run in and out.
The dogs have three big dog houses they can sleep in, but mostly they don’t. The outside cats sleep in the hay stack.
Life is as it should be on this little ranch, and the author is appreciative of all the blessings of it for herself and the animals.
