About The Author, Akbar Fakhar M.
Akbar Fakhar is a Persian businessman and author born in Mashad, Iran in 1949. He came to America to attend the University of Virginia’s college at Wise, Virginia. After graduating, Fakhar settled in Laurel, Maryland, where he raised his family and became a successful businessman and community leader.
Ever the writer, poet, and artist, Fakhar described his varied experiences adapting to American culture in the book Coming to America (2017). His current book, The Revolt of Time 2, brings together the fruits of many years writing poetry in Farsi and illustrating the poems with sketches in color and black & white.
This book is a larger, more developed version of Fakhar’s first book of poems, The Revolt of Time, published in Iran in 2006. The Revolt of Time 2 delves more deeply into topics and human emotions such as: beauty, joy, life, death, strength, ethics, and family. Many poems are illustrated with folk images.
Not surprisingly, the poem with the greatest meaning for Fakhar is the one titled, "My Iran." Illustrated with a dynamic map of Iran, it outlines the history, myths, and cultural diversity of this complex country.
Akbar Fakhar continues to write poetry. He says his "next book will have a political slant." Look out world!
