This deeply devout Catholic small town, still reeling from the wounds of war, has barely begun to recover when it faces yet another calamity.
Under the cover of night, unknown assailants brutally murder local priests and abduct altar boys. Even the Saint Lucia Nunnery on the outskirts of town isn’t spared by the merciless perpetrators.
Arisztid Wratiszlaw, the town’s Hungarian-born sheriff, is left with only one blood-stained message on the chapel wall: "Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins!"
