Uprising: a book of Poetry

The delicate yet soulful cadence of ＂See Me＂ is just one of her delightful romantic pieces, almost coy in its invitation to ＂really see me＂. ＂Uprising＂ is a true work of love as no only did Sylvia write this book, she illustrated the cover and interior art, formatted and self-published as well. Though this is her freshman effort, Sylvia L. Blalock is a lifelong writer. With over 40 years of journals under her belt, Sylvia has used every opportunity to stretch her vocabulary, writing style and life experience to produce a rich collection of written pieces that celebrate her life experiences and the world as she knows it. She states, as do many, that Maya Angelou has been a steadfast influence as well as Octavia Butler, Toni Blackman, Angela ＂Suntoucher＂ Patterson, Traci Collins and Ava Duvernay. The poems in this book touch on the joys, struggles, triumphs and lessons of being a black woman in the modern landscape with eyes towards the future.
