Sixty-two-year-old Leo Ponce is a part-time magician and full-time research scientist studying the causes of aging. After an unusual encounter at a quaint magic shop, Leo’s life takes an unexpected turn. He seems to be growing younger, and his magic is working far beyond his abilities.Confronted by two mysteries, Leo must use his lifetime of scientific experience to solve not only his own age regression, but the very unscientific problem of magic that has become real.His unscrupulous boss thinks Leo is hiding a breakthrough discovery, and is determined to obtain it at any cost. Another group, known only as The Watchers, has taken an interest in Leo for entirely different reasons.

Steve Vassey served multiple terms as president of the South Carolina Writers Workshop, and also acted as editor for the organization’s annual anthology. Retired from careers as an environmental scientist and information technology manager, he currently lives with his wife, an outspoken cat, and a forty-five pound lapdog in Cayce, SC.
