Traveling has always been a way of life for Jan and Gene Boys. After graduate school they began their nomadic lifestyle. During the last fifty years, Jan and Gene have lived in twenty homes in eight states and wandered in 11 countries. After retiring to Florida, they cruised more than 24,000 miles on the inland and coastal waterways from Minnesota to Florida, up the east coast to Canada and completed the Great Loop, a circumnavigation of the eastern third of North America. In their early married years, as an alternative to finding a position utilizing her degrees in chemistry and education, Jan choose to be a stay-at-home mom. Jan devoted herself to God, her family, the local churches and community. Volunteering has always been a major part of her life. "Work for the Lord. The retirement benefits are out of this world!" For more than forty-five years, Jan has been involved in various churches as a lector, Eucharistic minister, musician, writer, religious education coordinator and teacher, church ministry consultant, and a developer of ecumenical bible studies and small Christian communities. "My passion during retirement," Jan explains, "my dream is to leave a spiritual legacy to my children, grandchildren, and others that testifies how God has been and is ever-present and active in my life. I chose to travel with the Lord, to listen for the still small voice of God, and to bring His whisperings to the printed page. Since God can be found in people and places everywhere, our trips often become an Emmaus journey with no set schedule, no set route." An Emmaus journey is a time of traveling with the Lord: talking with Him, listening to Him, allowing His words to take root deep within us and set our hearts on fire. In "Traveling With The Lord: An Emmaus Journey to the Pacific Northwest," based on their land travels, Jan records those spiritual experiences. The companion book, "Reflections on the Water: Traveling the Waterways With God," relates the sacred experiences from their water travels. Jan describes this as "finding God’s ever-abiding presence in the everyday stuff of life." Each experience is a teaching tool, a parable that speaks to Jan’s soul and encourages her to listen for His whisperings. Jan and Gene live on the Intracoastal Waterway in North Fort Myers, Florida where their travel trailer and small trawler, the We Be Blest III wait for new adventures. They have three married sons, four granddaughters and one grandson.
