Fueling Your Recovery: Harnessing Spirituality

While a wild stallion may be beautiful and strong, if you can't get it harnessed you still won't get to town. The fastest car cannot move if its fuel lines are cut. With 12-Step programs being spiritual programs, a functional spirituality is necessary for success. Yet, so many people struggle with a higher power concept and end up trusting inanimate objects to assist them. Real problems require real solutions. and real recovery requires a functional spirituality. The author's work in addictions spans three decades and has now produced this book to help identify spirituality and how it works within the 12-step structure. A practical explanation simplifies the issue. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is used to illuminate the progressive spiritual steps involved in spiritual growth. Finally, five areas of the brain are identified to illustrate the path addiction takes and therefore, the road that recovery must travel.

Life has introduced many changes and challenges into the life of Clyde Mighells. After three degrees, a decade and a half of sobriety, three decades of working with addicts, Clyde now travels with his wife, Beverly, all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to share his knowledge and experience with others. Preferred Systems Inc., of Erie, PA, through whom he trains, has created a wonderful and challenging ＂fertile field＂ for Clyde to grow in his work as trainer, pastor and counselor. Clyde and Beverly reside in beautiful Howard, PA where he serves part time as the pastor of the Lighthouse Reformed Church. When he is not writing or training or preaching or counseling, in good weather, Clyde is off fishing or kayaking in nearby Sayer Lake. When the weather turns cold, he is probably is in his woodworking shop making who knows what.
